Terence Hannum is an artist and musician based in Baltimore, MD where he teaches at Stevenson University. He earned his BA from Florida Southern College and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His solo exhibitions include those at Stevenson University, Western Exhibitions, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and he has also participated in group exhibitions at Allegra La Viola (NYC), sophiajacob (Baltimore), Locatie Z, The Hague (Netherlands), and San Francisco Cinamatheque. Terence has performed music solo and with avant-metal trio Locrian (Relapse Records), and in collaboration with Nicolas Lobo at De La Cruz Collection (Miami) and Scott Treleaven at Kavi Gupta Gallery (Chicago). His book, A.Y.P.S., which features drawings, collages, and an interview with Kevin Killian was published by Kiddiepunk this year.
Carly Ptak and Twig Harper have been a part of the band Nautical Almanac since 1996, a project which seeks to reflect and tweak shared reality via the use of sonic communication and spontaneous performance. For the past 7 years, light and projections have been Nautical Almanac’s main live instruments, utilizing a variety of self-developed techniques based around lasers, video, overhead projectors and shadows. Carly and Twig have also developed a multipurpose expanse in Baltimore called Tarantula Hill which encapsulates a performance space, the HereSee record label, beehives, gardens, an esoteric lending library, recording studio, personal living space, and much more. They are currently installing a sensory deprivation tank to further their interest in new ways of perceiving.
The sophiajacob lecture series invites select members of the artistic community to present on a topic of their choice.
